A well-established small choir and part of the parish’s rich diversity.
Their regular commitment a monthly 9 o’clock communion service at St James, but they also sing in Holy Week and for the Nine Lessons and Carols on the Sunday before Christmas. The Consort are also beginning to embark on a quarterly service of sung Matins.
The Consort also sings a quarterly service of sung Matins. The music sung is varied but is mostly 16th and 17th century polyphony. Modern pieces are prepared too and the choir has given premieres of several pieces. The service of Matins contains largely 19th century music.
The Consort meets on Wednesday evenings between 8 and 9.30 pm. Singers must be able to hold a part eventually and reasonable sight-reading is desirable, though not compulsory.
