Celebrating | Getting Married

Weddings at St James or Emmanuel

We love to help people celebrate and few celebrations are bigger than a wedding.

Many people love the idea of getting married in a church for all kinds of reasons but often are not sure what is involved and how they go about making all the necessary arrangements.

We hope that these pages will provide you with lots of information to get your started.  As you read them you may find that you have all kinds of questions. If you do, then just email the Parish Office and we will do our best to help you.  If you just want to get cracking you can fill in our Wedding Enquiry Form, but please also read the rest of the information on these pages.

Same Sex Couples

We are a fully inclusive church community and we’ve developed a special service of celebration for use after a civil marriage or civil partnership.  Please contact us directly to discuss this option.  Sadly, by law we are not permitted to conduct marriages for same sex couples in church, but we welcome you warmly to use our church for our special service of celebration, which can include all the bells and musical options you will read about in the following pages.

Marriage after Divorce

We regularly conduct services for couples where one or both members have had a previous marriage.  For some people who have been divorced, part of the healing process can be getting married again. However, for us to remarry people in the church we’d first need to have a conversation with you where together we can explore your options. Please don’t panic or be embarrassed, just email the Parish Office or telephone 0161 446 4150.
