Church wedding fees

Weddings can cost a small fortune, but the church is often one of the cheapest parts!

For Marriage Service by Banns at St James and Emmanuel Church

The 2022 fees are listed below – there is usually a small upward adjustment each year.

Statutory Fee: £523 (this covers legal necessities, the cost of providing clergy, your Banns, some of the marriage document fees, lighting and administration.)

Marriage Preparation: £75 (a fantastic day of practical support into planning a wedding and forming healthy patterns of married life. This also covers the time given by the clergy to help prepare a bespoke order of service.)

Verger: £56 (opens the church, sets it up for your wedding, assists your ushers, helps during the service and clears away at the end.)

Organist: £120 (self-explanatory, but all our organists play to the highest standards and are very willing to cater to your needs.)

Utilities: £130 (We have a super heating system in both churches, and for a wedding in spring or autumn it’s highly advisable to purchase this option.)

Flowers: £75 (If you’d like us to arrange flowers for your wedding, otherwise feel free to hire a florist or invite family and friends to do them for you.)

Heritage Gift: £30 (this is an optional gift to enable us to invest in the buildings for future couples, it’s your legacy to our 800 year old parish.)

Bells: £210 (a team of up to six ringers will ring before and after your service at St James, it is a really beautiful sound.)

Video Recording: £123 (this fee cover the copyright permission required to record live music and performance in the church.)

When you have decided which of the elements above apply to you an invoice will be sent to you. Cheques need to be made payable to “St James and Emmanuel PCC”.  We can also take a card payment in the office or over the phone.

When do we need to pay?

A deposit of £100 is payable at the time of initial booking. This is part of the total fee and will be deducted from the final cost payable prior to your wedding date.  We prefer to return deposits if weddings are cancelled, but will not be able to do so if we’ve already turned away another couple who wanted the same date, or if significant time has already been expended in organising your service.

All payments to be received in advance of your wedding day.
